John Haines passed away last weekend aged 72.
Australian master production boat builder he built his first fibreglass boat in 1960 .
He also won just about every offshore and inshore racing event on the powerboat calendar and countless awards for his work in the Australian boating industry .

Very sad news indeed,  Thanks for the post Neil.

In about 1980, I was lucky enough to race one Mr Haines' Factory owned Offshore Race Boats in Class II. It was a black 26 footer, fitted with 3 x 280hp V6 Hi Preformance Mercs. I'll never forget that wonderful experience.
A BIG thank you is forever owed to John Haines, Kevin Wyld and John Troy of Mercury Marine for arranging that very special opportunity.
Result: 1st Outright and 1st in class. Yes, we even managed to beat the bigger and faster Class 1 giants at their own game on that day.
