A Question about my 1966 Evinrude Electric shift gearcase, its all working fine but with rebuilding the engine I would like to flush the gearcase before refilling with type c oil, I am considering using diesel as a quick flush then refill any opinions ?.

Just hold off on that venture Mike.
The Board has two very good OMC nuts who should be able to assist you with the Electric Shift Box. One to them should chime into this thread soon. If not, I'll ring them for you.

Dieso' may be detrimental to rubber seals etc. Special OMC Electric Shift Oil will be called for to refill, I believe?

Hi Mike,

If it needs to be flushed use kerosine. If oil is not contaminated there is no need to flush.

Thanks for your expert comment Mark.

What about the Oil? Should Mike use a special Oil, as I suspect? I note that Mike mentions in his initial post in this thread: "type C" is that the correct one to use in an OMC Electric Box?

Yes Mike is correct, you have to use type C in the electric gearboxes, and oil should always be kept clean.
