Probably both gone to their grave by now but if they're still around, I'm interested in either one.....

My dads old Crosby. Bought it new and sold around '71-72. Used on the Mornington Peninsula. White hull with red topsides, original 100 gold band was changed for a 110 silver band. Name sign written was "Whiplash" and the original reg number was VT81.
This was our family boat and I'd love to get my hands on it and make her pristine again. A very long shot but I gotta ask the question...?

The other boat I'd like to own was mine around '82-83. Peter Bradley Minx 16'. Was raced prior with the number 047 and the name "Dalek". Orange/red hullsides, white bottom and deck. The name was in yellow/black. Eric Barrow in Frankston sold me the hull and rigged it with an 85 Evinrude and it was the boat that taught me how to drive in Port Phillip Bay chop. Wish I'd never sold it.

I don't really expect to hear much on either boat but just in case someone knows something, it would be greatly appreciated.

Looking for a project that means something special to me and these two boats stand out. I have a couple of photos but can't post them. Apparently they are the wrong format and I can't figure it out.

Love the site, thanks to all.  Smiley

Sorry, I should have noted, I changed the name on the Minx from Dalek to "Ralek" because the original owner wanted to keep the name for his next boat.
(Still trying to work out the photos....lol)

Cheers!

Hi RR
Welcome. Send me the pics cessna336@gmail.com and I'd be glad to help. There is another red Crosby on the board somewhere that would be good to compare. I owned a mustered coloured one a few year s back, these pics are floating around also.

G'day RR,
I remember meeting Peter Bradley. I used to race short circuit, marathon and offshore in the 70's & 80's.
In fact two of my friends bought the moulds for Peters 12 foot Minx from him. One of the boats we built, ran somewhere in the mid 70's mph with a 650XS.

At the top of each page you will see a "search" button. Click on that and type "Crosby". I'm sure you will find lots of interesting stories there.

The Merc with the gold letters was the 1965 model - up to 100hp.

The silver band 110hp with 6 short red stripes was 1966 model (first year for thunderbolt and TNT) the lower hp motors did not have any red stripes at all.
The silver band 110hp with two long red stripes was 1967 model.

Thank you to the "Chair" for helping with the photos. They're not great but the the Crosby pics were taken with a Kodak box brownie and yep, that's me, the scrawny little guy with the blue 'budgie smugglers'.  Smiley

Any Crosby hunters, the mustard one on gumtree can be seen here. http://www.gumtree.com.au/s-ad/rydalmere/motorboats-powerboats/caribbean-crosby-with-original-mercury-kiekhafer-merc1000/1105509293
Don't know anything more than what you can see in the ad but it looks pretty original. Probably a nice project, I'm considering it but much prefer "Whiplash" if I can find her.

@mercman, my first Peter Bradley boat was a 12' Minx! Red with the name "Julie 2" It was just before I got my car licence and needed mum's help to tow it. She limited me to a 25hp on the back so I had one set up by Jock McLachlan at Burwood Boating Centre. The boat was later stolen from the foreshore at Rye on NYE 1976(?). Police found evidence the next week to suggest it had been repainted black but never recovered the boat.

Thanks also for the info r.e. Merc silver/gold bands, fits in with the dates for dad's old boat!

Cheers,
RR

Do you remember Kevin Wylde? Three times World Offshore Champion - Class 2.

That's me on the starboard side. Looking after throttles, fuel distribution and usage, trim tabs and motor trim.

The big black Haines had 3 x 280hp V6 racing Mercs to kick us along at well over 60mph in any conditions.

Many thanks go to my good friend John Troy from Mercury Marine for arranging me to race alongside Kevin Wylde.

Dave, Re your old Crosbie.
You'll remember when I was on my way to Daughter No1 wedding in March 2008, I spotted your old Crosbie outside Neptune Marine at Taren Point NSW.
The rego had an "N" then.
