We had a day at Tarwin Lower on the river, the engine ran beautifully apart from eating the fuel up more than i had hoped but still very happy.
I had a little bit of fish tailing the steering cable has a spring on port & starboard should it only have 1 spring? anybody know?.

Had to make a new windscreen the origanal one's visability was dangerous so more late nights in the shed.

Hi Mercman
The Trailer i just hit the rust with a power wire wheel on a angle grinder not fun then rust converter then Wattyl single pack cold gal , wattyl primer then Hi Chem silver grey hamertone, not a lot of time spent but should do for a few years.

Juzzanaut, Nice job on your 1500, i am curious as to the paint you used and also the SwiftCraft emblem on the dash did you have it recromed? Again nice job.

Hi, no you can wet on wet without sanding  and that’s good for less cosmetic areas.
Mounted the motor back on today so far all good, sea trials soon”

Hi I sand blasted most of the aluminium covers except the gearbox then primed with Epinamel PR250 then  Colourthane PF330 primer filler ( hi build primer ) top coat is Colourthane C Series. The fiberglass cowling was sanded back then just the PF330 and the C series top coat , these are Wattyl 2 pack industrial products I used them on a 40ft yacht I had, for an outboard a bit of over kill  but I was familiar with using them.  The Engine block I just primed then top coated. If you decide to go this way make sure you read the safety sheets and buy the best mask and filters you can. Wattyl trade centre in Springvale helped a lot to colour match the white & Polycromatic blue.

Back up and running, I changed the colour to Evinrude  polychromatic blue I think they only came out in the US & Canada with the blue.
Fairly easy engine to rebuild and parts are available but you do need a good selection of hammers’ & patience and maybe a sound proof  shed.  Hopefully in the next few weeks we will take it for a run in the Tarwin river then use the boat over summer at Inverloch then restore the boat over the winter .

Thanks Mark, I did not like the look of the oil that I drained out it seemed to be congealed / lumpy I had a similar problem with a perkins 4108 engine oil due to it running cold so flushed with diesel but happy with the kerosene fix. I hope to start reassembling the engine in the coming weeks with the rebore complete but i am sure I will put a few more questions to the board.

Thanks again

I would think the outboard date as Mercman stated would be correct for the Kingfisher. See the photo ( members boats ) I posted of the factory production line with a few kingfishers in the finishing section.
Great photo of your pop, EH and boat.

A Question about my 1966 Evinrude Electric shift gearcase, its all working fine but with rebuilding the engine I would like to flush the gearcase before refilling with type c oil, I am considering using diesel as a quick flush then refill any opinions ?.

The factory fire in 1966, I remember this day well, I was with my sisters and mum coming back from buying fish and chips on lower Dandenong rd as we came up to Boundary road we could see  the fire trucks and the factory well alight, mum just  turned the car straight in to boundary road and parked on top of one of the fire hoses  and tried to explain to a very angry fireman who we were.
