I have room for one more project in my yard
Ken's powercat Aj's mercury's
I am happy to foster the bastard love child until a proper parent is found.
I remember this thread and went through it again.
AJ I did laugh and felt your pain when you mentioned the canned outboard sound in the doco.

Hi Nigel,
well i understand how you would consider what four lined up may look like, Um three is very impressive.
I have just added a 1975 1500 long shaft to my collection and have them side by side for comparison.
Sounds awesome and loud - cant wait to give it a run ......
I shall be consulting you as things progress, if I may.
cheers Tom

I don't think that the 1500xs is genuine as the cowl is not fluted....It's definitely not the the one from Brisbane Old Racer because it was MEEEEEE!
Apologies everyone I don't post because I have no progress to report, but now that my motor is finished! I am motivated to work on boat.
I am glad you liked it Old Racer and that you met up. I told Graeme he would like this site but he said internet too challenging.
I see he still has 2.5 liter for sale if anyone wants to go really fast

Yes, well all my Knowledge is very Google Eyed so I may be a little confused. From pictures I am not sure if hardware suits you - but I definitely have the same fittings as the post I linked I can send you some photos from Gumtree that I saved - Ad is now gone

Hi Cherry, I am thinking my Caribbean is the Belmont, aka Dorsett Belmont, designed by Raymond Loewy.
The Lexington I was referring to was one that previously posted here some years ago http://board.net.au/yabbse/index.php?topic=799.0
It was listed for about 6K - VERY original - that motor is 50 years old and has a factory stamp clearly visible. MERCMAN will be kicking himself one day!  Wink I have all the fittings off the boat - if anyone wants castings before I re chrome I am happy to accommodate. cheers Tom

Yes well at the moment I am just establishing what state it is in. It has definitely been to sea. Starter turns it over nicely but I don't have spark, I cleaned up distributor - points were well worn. now I am stuck. Advice is to assess state of water jacket and gear box - maybe just a parts motor.
I have a lead on 1968 1000 - as you know they look mighty fine.
thanks for the reply

I have pulled up the floor and the stringers will need replacing, transom as well. It will be all good fun yes?

Here is my other project - There are no stamps or plates to identify but it must be a De Havilland?
14ft and all rivets. I have not been able find out a real lot about De Havillands.

Hello everyone,
I am a newbie both to blogs and to collecting broken boats Huh
Whilst keeping an eye out for a cheap tinny to run a spare motor I couldn't believe my luck when I also spotted a cool looking Caribbean.
I felt like a thief knocking down the price and towing it away. Weird thing was his wife gave me the same 'look' I got from mine when I arrived home! So how good is it to discover your website and find that you are all quiet sane.
So now that I have played a bit of boat Tetris and have them in my driveway I have started pulling them apart.

The Caribbean is mostly complete, chrome, badges and trim is all there and in good shape. The steering wheel cant be original? The Merc 650 apparently runs, engine no. makes it 1963 - I was quite happy with 65hp until I saw the tower of power!

I have read a lot of the posts here and it has given me lots of insight as to what i am in for. Idlehours was a great post.

FYI the previously posted Caribbean Lexington in Swan Hill was on gumtree and has just listed as sold. I WANT that motor, still had the factory inspection stamp visible.

Here is my boat,
